The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet system first devised by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight reduction diet, nevertheless many followers discover that they manage to lose weight by following it. The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which puts the body in a state of equilibrium that is much, much more healthy than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears believes that a body that is in 'the zone' is much more efficient and, because of this, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The most valuable technique of the system is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index diet system is reliant on the glycaemic index, a chart showing foods and an indicator of the ease that the carbs in the food gets transformed to glucose in your system. The claim is that slow release types of food (ie those food types with a low Gi number), will keep you feeling full for longer and help you to consume fewer food without starving yourself. It is also extremely effective for diabetics, as the low GI food types are useful in managing rises in glucose amount. Cruciferous vegetables, Wonder foods that aid Dieting (includes Broccoli, Boiled potatoes, Turnips and Napa) Altthough not always popular with children, these vegetables are jam-packed with vitamins (eg.folate), minerals (eg. potassium), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents and isothiocyanates. Over and above their many other health giving properties, the vitamins and nutrients in these are believed by nutritionalists to help reduce the cancer risk. |
