Flavonoid rich foods (inlcudes garlic, kale, soy & thyme) The flavonoids present in these fruits and vegetables are believed to be helpful in fighting cancer. The majority of these are low in calories, so should be a part of every diet. Super foods containing lycopene (includes apricots, red peppers and baby jackfruit) The nutrient lypcopene is a simple pigment and one of the phytochemical group known as 'carotenids'. Lycopene is behind the deep red color of some natural foods. Fortunately, unlike numerous other nutritional compounds, lycopene does not become less effective if subjected to heat, but is noticeably increased in efficacy by cooking. . Its most important benefit is that it behaves as an antioxidant and appears to help to reduce the probabilty of developing cancer. Lycopene is the strongest quencher of singlet oxygen, which is associated with aging of the skin. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows weight reduction whilst encouraging you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, eg bacon and hard cheeses. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, weight loss program. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including, but not limited to, cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. |
