Diet information

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index diet is linked to the glycaemic index, a list showing foods and a score representing the ease that the energy of the food type gets converted to sugar in the dieters bloodstream. The believe is that long-acting types of food (ie those with a low Glycaemic score), will keep you feeling full for longer and help to eat less food without feeling you are missing out.
It's also extremely efficient for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in preventing increases in blood glucose secretion.

The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Although highly controversial, it allows fat reduction but still allows you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example lamb and hard cheese.
On the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is often referred to as a high protein, low carb, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbs to burn into carbohydrates, it is the carbs which are burned first. If we eat less carbohydrates, we will burn up our stored fat and we will lose weight. This is the bit that is divisive, not all experts accept this as true and a few believe it is often dangerous.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system initially invented by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet is not expressly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' discover that they actually manage to lose a few pounds by following it.
The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the levels of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts the body in a state of balance which is much more healthy than normal, which is known as the zone.
Sears holds the theory that when your body is in this 'zone' it is much more efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't build up layers of fat.
The main method of the diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has high levels of Omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
