Weight loss diets

The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it allows weight reduction whilst still eating many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, eg meat and cheeses.
With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that if we reduce your intake of carbohydrates, we will utilise the fat we already carry and we will reduce weight

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a fat reduction diet, although some people claim that they manage to lose weight when following it.
The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is much, much more healthful than it normally is, which is known as the zone.
Sears states that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, as a result, doesn't need to build up stores of fat.
The main process of the zone diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure you get increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
