Types of diet

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system initially advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight loss diet, although many zone diet fans believe that they actually manage to lose weight by following this system.
The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts your body in a balanced state which is more healthful than usual, which is known as the zone.
Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, because of this, does not build up fat.
The most important procedure of the system is to maintain the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with plenty of Omega 3 fish oils.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Although highly controversial, it supposedly allows fat reduction but still allows you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example beef and eggs.
With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet system started by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston invented his weight loss system for his cardiac patients, as a result of his detailed study of scientific studies completed on other weight loss regimes.
Good foods include, canadian bacon, skinless poultry, seafood, provolone cheese, almonds, lowfat or nonfat milk and certain vegetables, such as artichokes, cucumbers and mushrooms.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
