The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index diet system is based on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing food types and a score representing the speed with which the carbohydrates in the food type gets converted to glucose in the dieters body. The theory is that slow acting foods (ie with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and mean that you can injest less food without being miserabl;e. It is also extremely beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in preventing increases in blood glucose levels. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan started by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which emphasizes that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston developed his nutritional system for his cardiac patients, as a result of his detailed analysis of scientific research completed on other dietary studies. Good foods include, veal cutlets, turkey breast, shellfish, parmesan cheese, almonds, lowfat milk and some vegatables, like kidney beans, cucumbers and spinach. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, white onions and spring onions) The onion and garlic family of vegetables is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe could be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is not enough, real proof available, allyl sulfides are also thought by nutritionalists to reduce the symptoms of blood circulation, high blood pressure and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also low in calories, so should be included in every diet system. |
