Diet informationThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is linked to the glycaemic index, a list of food types and a score representing the ease that the carbohydrates of the food gets transformed to sugar in your blood stream. The claim is that long-acting foods (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to reduce your intake of food without being miserabl;e. It is also extremely effective for people with diabetes, as the low GI food types are beneficial in minimizing surges in blood sugar amount. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the popular atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Although not accepted by all scientists, it supposedly allows fat reduction but still allows you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, such as meat and hard cheese. On the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a high protein, low carb, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to change into energy, it is the carbohydrates that are burned first. If we reduce your consumption of carbs, we will use up our fat and we will become thinner. This theory is controversial, not all researchers agree and some even allege that it can sometimes be risky. |
