Diet informationThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight loss diet, however many 'zone dieters' find that they manage to lose body weight by following it. The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a balanced state which is an awful lot more wholesome than normal, known as the 'zone'. Sears claims that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, as a result, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The most important procedure of the system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition system is based on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing types of food and a score illustrating the ease that the energy of the food type gets converted to sugar in the dieters blood stream. The theory is that slow release food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic score), suppress your appetite and help you to cut down on food without feeling you are always hungry. It's also extremeley effective for folk with diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in minimizing rises in blood glucose amount. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system created by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston invented his nutritional system for people who have heart disease, as a result of his analysis of scientific research on other weight loss studies. Good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, prawns, provolone cheese, pecan halves, lowfat milk and certain vegetables, like asparagus, lettuce and turnips. |
