Diet typesThe Atkins’ Diet Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows fat reduction whilst allowing many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example lamb and hard cheese. With the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. |
