The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it claims to allow weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, such as meat and egg and cheese.
With this diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The 'science' behind the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to transform into glucose and energy, it is the carbohydrates which are burned primarily. If we injest less carbs, our bodies will utilize our stored fat and we will lose weight. This theory is contentious, not all nutritionalists agree and many believe it is often bad for your health.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is based on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of food types and a score representing the ease that the carbs in the food type gets changed to glucose in the dieters blood stream. The claim is that slow release foods (ie those with a low Glycaemic index score), will keep you feeling full for longer and mean that you can eat fewer food without starving yourself.
It is also extremely useful for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in controlling increases in blood glucose secretion.

Superfoods rich in flavonoids
(inlcudes lettuce, broccoli, scarlet runner bean & tea)

The nutrients called 'flavonoids' present in these foods are believed to be helpful in preventing cancer.
Medical experts researching the nutritional effects of flavonoids suspect that they could have most other health giving capabilities, including, but not limited to, anti-candida and antiplatelet activities..
Most also have a low calorie count, so should be a part of every weight loss regime.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
