Foods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes onion, fennel, lima bean and dill) The flavonoids discovered in these fruit, vegetables and pulses are believed to have properties in fighting cancer. Nutritionalists looking into the nutritional effects of flavonoids suspect that they may well have many other health giving properties, including, but not limited to, anti-asthma and antioxidant powers. The majority of these are low in calories, so should be included in your diet. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss regime initially advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not expressly a weight reduction diet, nevertheless many people believe that they reduce body weight by following this system. The science behind the Zone Diet is that if you can gain control of the levels of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts the body in a balanced state that is more wholesome than usual, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears alleges that if you get into this 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, because of this, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The most interesting technique of the system is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
