Diet informationThe Atkins’ Diet Now nearly 5 decades old, the popular atkins diet is still widely used today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow weight loss whilst allowing you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, eg lamb and hard cheese. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The 'science' behind the popular atkins diet is that if we eat less carbohydrates, our bodies will use up the fat we have stored and we will become thinner The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system primarily detailed by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a fat reduction diet, however many people claim that they actually manage to lose body weight by following the zone diet. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts your body in a state of balance that is far more wholesome than other diets, known as the 'zone'. Sears holds the theory that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, as a result, does not convert energy to unsightly fat. The key process of the zone system is to control the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils. |
