Foods containing lycopene (includes water melon, papaya and tomato puree) The chemical lypcopene is a simple chemical compound and part of the carotenid family. Lycopene is the agent responsible for the dark red color of quite a few types of food. Usefully, unlike numerous nutrients, lycopene does not degrade if cooked, rather it is essentially strengthened by the cooking process. . Lycoprene's most valuable medical value is that it acts as an antioxidant and appears to be of use in the fight to lower the chances of cancer. It is the most effective carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, which is associated with skin aging. It's also believed to impede the development of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes garlic, onions and welsh onion) The onion and garlic range of vegetables is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is insufficient hard medical proof available, allyl sulfides are also thought by many researchers to help with antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be included in every weight loss program. |
