Weight loss systemsThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight loss diet, although many followers find that they manage to lose body weight when following it. The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can control the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is more healthy than usual, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears believes that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat. The main process of the system is to control the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition and weightloss system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing types of food and a score representing the ease that the energy of the food type gets changed to glucose in your system. The theory is that slow acting foods (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic index score), suppress your appetite and mean that you can cut down on food without starving yourself. It's also extremely effective for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in reducing increases in blood sugar amount. The Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst allowing many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as bacon and hard cheeses. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is often referred to as a high protein, low carb, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the atkins diet is that if we reduce your consumption of carbohydrates, our bodies will deplete our fat and we will achieve weight loss The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system started by Dr. arthur agatston which stresses that one should consume "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston developed his weight loss regime for people who have cardiac problems, based on his analysis of scientific studies completed on other weight loss studies. Approved foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, clams, fat free cheese, peanut butter, lowfat milk and certain vegetables, like artichokes, cabbage and turnips. |
