Weight loss systems

The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet is still widely used today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like beef and egg and cheese.
With the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic of the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to burn into energy, it is the carbohydrates that are burned primarily. If we cut down on carbohydrates, our bodies will burn up the fat we have stored and we will achieve weight loss. This is the bit that is divisive, not all doctors accept this as true and a few hold that it is sometimes risky.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weightloss system is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing food types and a score representing the ease that the carbohydrates of the food gets changed to sugar in your body. The believe is that long-acting food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help to reduce your consumption of food without feeling you are missing out.
It's also extremeley useful for folk with diabetes, as the low GI food types are beneficial in minimizing surges in glucose amount.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet system invented by Cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Doctor agatston invented his weight loss system as an aid to patients with heart conditions, based on his analysis of scientific studies completed on other nutritional studies.
Examples of good foods include, broiled ham, turkey breast, shrimp, parmesan cheese, almonds, lowfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, such as kidney beans, cabbage and sprouts.

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
