Weight loss dietsThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition and weightloss system is based on the glycaemic index, a chart showing types of food and a score illustrating the ease with which the glucose and energy of the food type gets converted to glucose in your bloodstream. The claim is that slow acting food types (ie those foods with a low Gi number), suppress your appetite for longer and help to eat less food without being miserabl;e. It's also extremely effective for diabetics, as the low GI foods are helpful in reducing surges in blood glucose levels. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system invented by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston invented his nutritional system for people who have cardiac problems, as a result of his detailed study of scientific studies completed on other dietary studies. Approved foods include, lean beef, skinless poultry, clams, parmesan cheese, almonds, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, such as artichokes, collard greens and water chestnuts. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows weight reduction whilst encouraging you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example fatty meat and egg and cheese. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. |
