Cruciferous vegetables, Tasty superfoods that help with Dieting (eg. Broccoli, Celery, Mizuna and Radishes) Members of the brassica family are jam-packed with vitamins (eg.folate and vitamin c), minerals (eg. selenium), chlorophyll, fibre, indole-3-carbinol and isothiocyanates.. In addition to their most other great health giving properties, the nutrients in these are believed by nutritionalists to help reduce the cancer risk. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, white onions and green onion) The onion family of foods is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is as yet, not enough scientific proof available, allyl sulphides are also thought by many experts to reduce the symptoms of colds, high blood pressure and physical exhaustion. Foods containing allyl sulfides are low in calories, so make sure you add them to your weight loss program. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet is not expressly a weight loss diet, but many 'zone dieters' find that they really lose a few pounds by following this system. The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you control the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts your body in a state of balance that is much, much more healthful than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears holds the theory that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, because of this, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The main procedure of the zone diet is to maintain the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
