Diet types

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is based on the glycaemic index, a chart showing types of food and a score illustrating the speed that the carbs in the food gets transformed to sugar in your body. The believe is that slow acting foods (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic score), keep you feeling full longer and help to cut down on food without feeling you are missing out.
It is also extremely effective for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI types of food are helpful in controlling surges in blood glucose levels.

The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it allows weight loss whilst allowing foods that are normally considered bad for diets, like pork and some dairy produce.
With this diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system first suggested by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, although many zone diet followers claim that they reduce body weight by following it.
The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you limit the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a result puts one's body in a balanced state which is far more healthy than normal, which is known as the zone.
Sears believes that if you get into this 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a result, does not convert energy to unsightly fat.
The key procedure of the diet is to control the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
