Weight loss systems

The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows fat reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like meat and butter.
With this diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is often referred to as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is based on the gi index, a chart showing types of food and a score illustrating the speed with which the glucose and energy of the food gets converted to glucose in the dieters bloodstream. The claim is that slow acting foods (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you feeling full longer and help to reduce your intake of food without starving yourself.
It is also extremely effective for folk with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in managing increases in blood sugar secretion.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet invented by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should be eating "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston invented this diet for people who have heart disease, as a consequence of his analysis of scientific research completed on other weight loss systems.
Examples of good foods include, broiled ham, chicken breast, fish and shellfish, fat free cheese, almonds, nonfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like black beans, broccoli and turnips.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
