The low-cal diet
As most people know, the low calorie diet says that in order to lose weight, it is important to eat fewer calories than your body requires. Definition of a calorie? A calorie is a unit of measurement for energy. The calorie is the the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree celsius. If your meal has more calories, then it will will give you more energy to use when your body burns it. Examples of low calorie foods include boiled potatoes, green peppers, melon, ground turkey, and skimmed milk. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing foods and an indicator of the rapidity that the carbohydrates in the food gets converted to glucose in the dieters blood stream. The theory is that slow release foods (ie those food types with a low Gi number), keep you feeling full longer and mean that you can take in less food without being miserabl;e. It's also extremely useful for diabetics, as the low GI food types are useful in controlling rises in blood sugar amount. Healthy foods with carotenes (includes parsley, mangos and winter squash) These fruit and veg are rich in alpha-carotene and beta-carotene believed be a key nutrient in preventing cancer, particularly those cancers involving the stomach. The majority of these also have a low calorie count, so you should add them to your weight loss regime. |
