The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index weight loss program is based around the gi index, a chart showing food types and an indicator of the rapidity with which the carbohydrates of the food gets converted to glucose in your body. The believe is that long-acting food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to injest less food without starving yourself. It's also beneficial for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in controlling rises in blood glucose levels. The Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it claims to allow weight reduction whilst still eating foods that are normally considered bad for diets, eg beef and some dairy produce. With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, diet system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The 'science' behind the atkins diet is that if we take in fewer carbs, we will use up the fat we already carry and we will become thinner Healthy foods with carotenes (includes carrots, mangos and winter squash) These orange and green fruit and veg contain alpha-carotene and beta-carotene believed by many to help in preventing cancer, specifically those cancers involving the esophagus and stomach. Many are also good for weight loss, so should be a part of every weight loss regime. |
