Diet information

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a weight loss system started by Cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should consume "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston developed this diet for his cardiac patients, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific data completed on other nutritional studies.
"good" foods include, lean beef, chicken breast, shrimp, feta cheese, peanuts, nonfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, like asparagus, celery and turnips.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially invented by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a weight reduction diet, however many followers claim that they really lose a few pounds by following the zone diet.
The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, in turn puts your body in a state of equilibrium which is an awful lot more healthful than other diets, known as the 'zone'.
Sears alleges that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, does not convert energy to unsightly fat.
The most important process of the zone system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is based around the gi index, a chart showing types of food and a score illustrating the speed that the energy of the food type gets changed to glucose in your system. The believe is that slow release foods (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help to cut down on food without craving snacks all the time.
It's also beneficial for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI types of food are useful in managing increases in glucose levels.

The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat many of the foods you love, like fatty meat and cheeses.
With this diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The controversial theory behind the famous atkins diet is that even if our bodies use both fats and carbs to transform into carbs, it is the carbohydrates that are burned primarily. If we eat less carbs, we will utilise the fat we have stored and we will become thinner. This is the bit that is contentious, not all experts are in agreement and many believe it is often unsafe.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
