Diet information

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it enables weight reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example meat and hard cheese.
With the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is often referred to as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition system is based on the glycaemic index, a list showing types of food and a score illustrating the rapidity with which the glucose and energy of the food gets changed to glucose in your system. The claim is that slow acting foods (ie those with a low Gi number), keep you feeling full longer and help to reduce your intake of food without starving yourself.
It's also very good for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in preventing increases in blood glucose amount.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet system created by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should consume "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Doctor agatston developed his weight loss regime for people who have heart disease, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific research completed on other diets.
Approved foods include, canadian bacon, skinless poultry, fish, parmesan cheese, almonds, nonfat milk and certain vegetables, such as kidney beans, cucumbers and turnips.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
