Lycopene super foods (includes grapefruit, papaya and baby jackfruit) The phytochemical lycopene is a naturally occurring pigment and one of the carotenid family of phytochemicals. This chemical is behind the deep red hue of quite a few natural foods. Unlike most other nutritional compounds, this useful phytochemical is not damaged if it is cooked, rather it is truly strengthened by going through the cooking process. . Its most interesting medical value is that it works as an antioxidant and appears to help to reduce the probabilty of cancer. This useful phytochemical is the most potent remover of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with skin aging. It is also thought to prevent the growth of atherosclerosis. |
