Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes pickled shallots, white onions and spring onions) The onion and garlic family of vegetables is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is as yet, not enough real proof published, allyl sulfides are also thought to reduce problems with blood circulation, sterilization and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also low in calories, so you should add them to your weight loss program. Superfoods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes olive oil, brussels sprouts, lima bean & cayenne) The large family of compounds known as flavonoids present in these foods are believed to have properties in preventing cancer. Medical experts researching the medical effects of flavonoids believe they might also have many other healthy benefits, including, but not limited to, anti-allergic and antioxidant properties. Many also have a low calorie count, so are ideal for including in your weight loss program. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t expressly a weight reduction diet, although many zone diet followers believe that they really manage to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if you can control the levels of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts the body in a state of balance that is much more healthy than other diets, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a consequence, does not build up fat. The main method of the system is to maintain the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
