Weight loss dietsThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is based on the glycaemic index, a list showing food types and a score illustrating the ease with which the carbs in the food gets converted to glucose in the dieters system. The believe is that long-acting foods (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to reduce your consumption of food without feeling hungry. It is also beneficial for folk with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in minimizing surges in blood glucose secretion. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system invented by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which emphasizes that dieters should be eating "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston developed his nutritional system for his cardiac patients, based on his analysis of scientific studies on other weight loss systems. Approved foods include, lean cuts of beef, skinless poultry, shellfish, cottage cheese, peanuts, lowfat milk and some vegatables, such as artichokes, collard greens and snow peas. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially created by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet is not distinctly a weight reduction diet, however many followers discover that they seem to lose a few pounds when following it. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can gain control of the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a result puts the body in a state of balance that is a lot more healthful than other diets, which is known as the zone. Sears alleges that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its best and, as a consequence, does not convert energy to unsightly fat. The most important technique of the diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
