Diet information

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition system is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of food types and a score representing the speed that the carbohydrates of the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters system. The believe is that slow release foods (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to cut down on food without craving snacks all the time.
It's also very beneficial for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI foods are beneficial in reducing surges in blood sugar levels.

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst allowing foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example fatty meat and eggs.
With this diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition system initially detailed by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet is not exactly a weight loss diet, however many 'zone dieters' claim that they really manage to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet.
The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you limit the levels of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which puts the body in a balanced state that is far more healthy than normal, which is known as the zone.
Sears claims that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its most efficient and, as a result, doesn't build up fat.
The main technique of the zone system is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
