The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index weight loss regime is reliant on the gi index, a list showing foods and a score representing the speed with which the glucose in the food gets changed to sugar in your body. The theory is that slow acting foods (ie with a low Gi score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to consume less food without starving yourself. It's also extremely useful for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in minimizing increases in blood sugar secretion. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet first suggested by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not particularly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' discover that they lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can control the levels of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which puts your body in a state of equilibrium which is more healthful than other diets, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears states that a body that is in 'the zone' is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, doesn't build up layers of fat. The most interesting method of the system is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 3 fish oils. Flavonoid rich foods (inlcudes cranberry, apples, soy and thyme) The compounds known as flavonoids which are present in these fruit and vegetables are believed to be good as cancer fighters. Medical experts who have been studying the effects of flavonoids believe that they may well have many healthy properties, amongst them, anti-viral and antiplatelet powers. Many also have a low calorie count, so should be included in every diet. |
