Weight loss systemsThe Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition and weight loss system is based on the gi index, a list showing foods and a score representing the speed with which the glucose and energy in the food gets changed to sugar in your blood stream. The believe is that long-acting foods (ie those with a low Glycaemic index score), suppress your appetite and help to cut down on food without feeling you are missing out. It is also extremely useful for folk with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in managing surges in blood sugar amount. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily devised by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight loss diet, however many 'zone dieters' believe that they really lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to gain control of the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, in turn puts the body in a balanced state which is much, much more healthful than other diets, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears holds the theory that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, as a consequence, doesn't build up fat. The most important procedure of the system is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take high levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Atkins’ Diet Now nearly 5 decades old, the famous atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it enables fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat many of the foods you love, eg lamb and butter. With the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The controversial theory behind the famous atkins diet is that even if our bodies use both fats and carbs to change into carbohydrates, it is the carbohydrates that are burned initially. If we cut down on carbohydrates, we will burn up the fat we have stored and we will reduce weight. Although inviting, this theory is controversial, not all experts accept this as true and a few feel it can sometimes be bad for your health. |
