Lycopene superfoods (includes water melon, red peppers & cochinchin gourd) The chemical lypcopene is a non-synthetic coloring agent and part of the same family of phytochemicals as carotene. This chemical is responsible for the dark red hue of a good number of types of food. Intrestingly, unlike numerous other nutritional compounds, lycopene does not degrade if cooked, but is noticeably enhanced by cooking. . Its key health contribution is that it behaves as an antioxidant and is thought to be of use in the battle to lower the risks of developing cancer. Lycopene is the strongest quencher of singlet oxygen, which is associated with aging of the skin. It's also thought by nutritionalists to curtail the development of atherosclerosis. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, leeks and welsh onion) The alliaceae family of foods is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is very little hard medical proof available, allyl sulfides are also believed to reduce the symptoms of antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and physical exhaustion. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be included in every weight loss regime. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan invented by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should be eating "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston invented his system for people who have cardiac problems, as a result of his detailed analysis of scientific data on other diets. Approved foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, oysters, feta cheese, pistachios, eggs and some vegatables, like green beans, lettuce and sprouts. |
