Weight loss systemsThe Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst still eating foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example bacon and cheeses. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the atkins diet is that if we reduce your intake of carbs, we will deplete our stored fat and we will become thinner The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet first devised by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet isn’t expressly a weight loss diet, nevertheless many people claim that they really manage to lose a few pounds by following this system. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the secretion of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a balanced state that is an awful lot more wholesome than it normally is, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears alleges that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its best and, as a result, does not need to build up stores of fat. The main procedure of the diet is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan invented by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which encourages that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston developed this diet for people who have cardiac problems, as a result of his analysis of scientific research completed on other dietary studies. Approved foods include, broiled ham, chicken breast, oysters, parmesan cheese, peanuts, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, such as lentils, lettuce and mushrooms. |
