The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet started by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes that one should consume "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston invented his weight loss regime for his cardiac patients, as a result of his detailed analysis of scientific studies on other dietary studies. Approved foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, seafood, feta cheese, almonds, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, such as lentils, collard greens and sprouts. Lycopene foods (includes apricots, red peppers and tomatoes) The phytochemical lycopene is a non-synthetic compound used to color foods and one of the phytochemical group known as 'carotenids'. Lycopene is accountable for the deep red colour of some fruit and vegetables. Intrestingly, unlike most other healthy agents, lycopene not only survives being cooked, but is noticeably made more effective by going through the cooking process. . Lycoprene's key medical value is that it acts as an antioxidant and seems to be an asset in the fight to reduce the chances of developing cancer. It is the most powerful carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, which is associated with skin aging. It's also believed to impede the progression of atherosclerosis. |
