Diet information

The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it enables weight loss whilst still eating foods that are normally considered bad for diets, eg meat and butter.
On the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a high protein, low carb, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially created by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t expressly a weight loss diet, although many zone diet followers believe that they actually seem to lose a few pounds by following it.
The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the levels of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which puts one's body in a state of equilibrium which is much more healthful than it normally is, which is known as the zone.
Sears holds the theory that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, as a consequence, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat.
The key method of the zone system is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index diet is linked to the glycaemic index, a list showing food types and an indicator of the ease with which the carbs in the food gets transformed to sugar in the dieters body. The claim is that slow acting food types (ie those food types with a low Gi number), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to reduce your consumption of food without starving yourself.
It is also beneficial for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in reducing rises in blood glucose amount.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet system invented by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston developed this diet for people who have heart disease, as a result of his detailed analysis of scientific research on other weight loss systems.
Approved foods include, broiled ham, turkey breast, clams, provolone cheese, peanut butter, nonfat milk and some vegatables, like asparagus, cucumbers and mushrooms.

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
