Weight loss dietsThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system first advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet is not exactly a weight loss diet, but some people claim that they reduce a few pounds by following this system. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you can control the levels of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts the body in a balanced state that is a lot more healthy than it normally is, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears believes that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, as a consequence, does not need to build up stores of fat. The main technique of the zone diet is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet started by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his nutritional system for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific studies on other weight loss systems. Approved foods include, broiled ham, chicken breast, clams, parmesan cheese, pecan halves, lowfat or nonfat milk and certain vegetables, such as green beans, collard greens and mushrooms. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition system is linked to the glycaemic index, a chart showing food types and an indicator of the rapidity with which the carbohydrates of the food gets transformed to glucose in your blood stream. The theory is that long-acting foods (ie with a low Glycaemic score), suppress your appetite for longer and mean that you can reduce your intake of food without starving yourself. It is also very useful for people with diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in reducing increases in blood glucose secretion. |
