The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index weight loss program is based on the glycaemic index, a list of types of food and an indicator of the rapidity that the energy of the food gets changed to sugar in your blood stream. The claim is that long-acting foods (ie those with a low Gi number), will keep you feeling full for longer and help you to take in less food without craving snacks all the time. It's also especially beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI foods are helpful in managing surges in glucose amount. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss regime first suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a weight loss diet, but many followers claim that they seem to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a balanced state that is an awful lot more healthful than normal, known as the 'zone'. Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a result, does not build up fat. The most valuable process of the diet is to control the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The brassica family, Wonder foods that aid Weight loss (includes Cauliflower, Fresh green beans, Collard greens and Chinese cabbage) Known as cruciferous vegetables, these are full of vitamins (folate and vitamin c, for example), minerals (selenium and potassium, for example), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents and isothiocyanates. Amongst most other healthy effects, some of these nutrients are thought by many to significantly lower the risk of getting cancer. |
