Foods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes cranberry, apples, soya beans & cayenne) The nutrients called 'flavonoids' present in these fruit, vegetables and pulses are believed to be helpful as cancer fighters. Researchers researching the medical effects of flavonoids believe they could have numerous health benefits, including, but not limited to, anti-candida and antitumor capabilities. The majority of these are also low in calories, so should be a part of every weight loss program. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, onions and spring onions) The onion and garlic family is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is as yet, not enough definitive proof available, allyl sulphides are also thought to reduce problems with blood circulation, arteriosclerosis and physical exhaustion. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be included in every weight loss program. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet first suggested by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a weight loss diet, nevertheless many people discover that they really manage to lose a few pounds by following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is far more wholesome than other diets, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears believes that when your body is in this 'zone' it is much more efficient and, as a result, doesn't build up fat. The main method of the zone diet is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
