The low-cal diet
Put simply, the low calorie diet depends on the fact that if you are going to diet successfully, the most important step is to take in fewer calories than you need. So what is a calorie? A calorie is a measurement of the energy provided by food. The food calorie is the the energy required to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree centigrade at normal atmospheric pressure. If a food contains more calories, then it will provide your body with more energy to use when it is eaten. Low-cal foods include fresh green beans, green peppers, apricot, canadian bacon, and low-fat cheese. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss regime primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a fat reduction diet, although many zone diet followers believe that they actually manage to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you can control the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a result puts the body in a balanced state which is an awful lot more healthy than it normally is, which is known as the zone. Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The key process of the zone system is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. Foods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes onion, spinach, soya & thyme) The nutrients called 'flavonoids' present in these foods are thought by nutritionalists to have properties in preventing cancer. Experts researching the effects of flavonoids believe they might also have numerous other benefits to our health, amongst them, anti-allergic and antioxidant powers. Most also help you lose weight, so you should add them to your weight loss regime. |
