Weight loss dietsThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a weight loss diet, however many followers discover that they really manage to lose a few pounds when following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a balanced state which is more healthful than usual, known as the 'zone'. Sears claims that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its most efficient and, because of this, does not build up fat. The main process of the diet is to keep tight control over the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system created by Cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages that one should consume "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed the south beach diet for people who have heart disease, based on his detailed analysis of scientific studies completed on other weight loss systems. Examples of good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, fish, feta cheese, pistachio nuts, lowfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, such as split peas, cucumbers and turnips. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weightloss system is reliant on the glycaemic index, a list showing foods and an indicator of the rapidity that the energy of the food gets transformed to sugar in your system. The claim is that slow acting foods (ie those with a low Glycaemic index score), suppress your appetite and mean that you can eat less food without starving yourself. It is also especially beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are useful in managing rises in blood sugar levels. |
