The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it supposedly allows weight reduction but still allows you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, such as bacon and egg and cheese. With this diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the atkins diet is that if we take in fewer carbs, we will utilise the fat we already carry and we will get rid of some fat Flavonoid rich foods (inlcudes garlic, broccoli, soya & dill) The flavonoids discovered in these types of food are believed to be good as cancer fighters. Researchers looking into the nutritional effects of flavonoids believe that they could also have many other healthy properties, including anti-dermatitis and antitumor properties. Many are also low in calories, so make sure you add them to your weight loss program. |
