Types of dietThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of food types and a score illustrating the ease with which the glucose of the food gets converted to glucose in the dieters system. The theory is that slow release types of food (ie those food types with a low Gi number), suppress your appetite for longer and help to cut down on food without craving snacks all the time. It is also especially beneficial for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI food types are helpful in reducing surges in blood glucose secretion. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not particularly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many 'zone dieters' discover that they lose weight by following the zone diet. The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts the body in a balanced state which is a lot more healthy than usual, which is known as the zone. Sears states that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its best and, because of this, does not build up fat. The most important process of the zone system is to control the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
