Weight loss systems

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system first invented by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, but many people find that they seem to lose a few pounds by following it.
The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts the body in a balanced state that is a lot more healthful than other diets, this is referred to as 'the zone'.
Sears states that a body that is in 'the zone' is much more efficient and, because of this, does not build up layers of fat.
The most important process of the diet is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils.

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many of the foods you love, eg fatty meat and hard cheese.
On the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a high protein, low carb, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic behind the atkins diet is that if we cut down on carbs, we will utilize our fat and we will lose weight

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index diet is based around the gi index, a list showing types of food and an indicator of the rapidity that the carbohydrates of the food type gets converted to glucose in your body. The believe is that slow release types of food (ie with a low Glycaemic index score), will keep you feeling full for longer and mean that you can eat less food without being miserabl;e.
It's also very beneficial for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in preventing surges in glucose amount.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
