Foods containing carotenes
(includes cilantro, kale and winter squash)
These colorful plants are rich in alpha and beta carotenes thought to play a role in minimising the risk of cancer, specifically of the the lungs. Many are also good for weight loss, so should be included in every diet system.

Lycopene rich foods
(includes watermelon, papaya & baby jackfruit)

The nutrient lypcopene is a naturally occurring chemical compound and part of the same group of phytochemicals as carotene. It is accountable for the dark red hue of a good number of types of food.

Fortunately, unlike most other nutrients, lycopene does not degrade if cooked, rather it is actually increased in efficacy by cooking.

. Lycoprene's main medical value is that it serves as an antioxidant and is believed to be of use in the fight to lower the chances of developing cancer.

This useful phytochemical is the most efficacious remover of singlet oxygen, which is linked with aging of the skin. It is also thought by many experts to hamper the development of atherosclerosis.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is reliant on the glycaemic index, a chart showing food types and a score representing the speed that the energy of the food gets transformed to sugar in the dieters body. The believe is that slow release foods (ie with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to eat fewer food without feeling you are missing out.
It is also especially beneficial for folk with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are useful in reducing increases in glucose secretion.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
