Ingredients
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 each egg
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
1 dash salt
1 cup flour
1 cup dates, unsugared, chopped
1 cup coconut, shredded
1 cup walnuts or pecans
Directions
Cream butter, egg and vanilla until mixed and fluffy. Beat in dry
ingredients gradually mixing well after each addition. Mix in dates,
coconut and 1/ c of the nuts. Form dough into two 1-1/2 inch logs.
Roll logs into remaining nuts (1/4 c each). Wrap in waxed paper and
chill (or freeze) until firm enough to slice. Preheat oven to 350
degrees. Slice cookies 1/4 inch thick and place on a nonstick cookie
sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes until light golden brown. Cool on wire
racks.

Superfoods containing carotenes (includes cilantro, collard greens and winter squash) These fruits and vegetables are rich in carotenes (alpha and beta) believed by nutritionalists play a key part in minimizing the chances of contracting, particularly cancers of the stomach. Many are also good for weight loss, so should be included in your diet. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, leeks and green onion) The onion family is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is not enough, definitive proof obtainable, allyl sulfides are also believed to reduce problems with colds, high blood pressure and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so should be included in your weight loss regime. The Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example lamb and butter. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. |
