Lycopene foods (includes guava, red bell peppers & tomatoes) The phytochemical lycopene is a simple coloring compound and a member of the same group of phytochemicals as carotene. This chemical is behind the dark red colour of many natural foods. Fortunately, unlike numerous healthy agents, lycopene not only survives being cooked, but is essentially increased in efficacy by being cooked. . Lycoprene's main value is that it acts as an antioxidant and seems to help lower the probabilty of developing cancer. It is the most effective eliminator of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with aging of the skin. It is also thought by nutritionalists to block the progression of atherosclerosis. |
