We have quiche here in South Africa. I make a crustless quiche - much
quicker, easier & lower fat
:). What this means in practice is that, instead of making pastry for the
quiche, add a tablespoon of flour to your egg & milk custard mixture, beat
well to remove lumps and pour this over the fillings which are placed in
the dish (give the dish a spray of non-stick baking spray). Cook as normal.
During baking, the flour sinks to the bottom of the custard to form a mock
crust. I have made this using ordinary white & wholwheat flour, as well as
corn & potato flour.

Diet typesThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not exactly a weight reduction diet, but many zone diet followers find that they really manage to lose a few pounds by following this system. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a consequence puts the body in a state of balance that is much more healthy than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, does not need to build up stores of fat. The main process of the diet is to control the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it supposedly allows weight reduction whilst allowing you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as pork and hard cheese. With the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that must be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the popular atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbs to burn into carbohydrates, it is the carbs which are burned primarily. If we reduce your intake of carbs, our bodies will use up our stored fat and we will reduce weight. Although inviting, this theory is contentious, not all doctors agree and some experts hold that it can sometimes be risky. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system invented by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston developed his weight loss system as an aid to patients with heart conditions, based on his detailed study of scientific research on other dietary studies. Approved foods include, canadian bacon, skinless poultry, clams, provolone cheese, pistachios, eggs and certain vegetables, like butter beans, cucumbers and turnips. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition and weightloss system is based on the glycaemic index, a list showing types of food and an indicator of the speed with which the glucose of the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters blood stream. The claim is that long-acting types of food (ie with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to eat less food without feeling you are always hungry. It's also very useful for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI food types are beneficial in reducing rises in glucose levels. |
