Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes eschalot, onions and spring onions) The onion range of vegetables is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is too little scientific proof obtainable, allyl sulphides are also believed to reduce the symptoms of antiinflammatory effect, high blood pressure and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides are low in calories, so should be a part of every weight loss program. Cruciferous vegetables, Healthy superfoods that also help with your Dieting (eg. Arugula, Bok choy, Tatsoi and Chinese cabbage) Altthough not always popular with children, these are jam-packed with vitamins (folate and vitamin c, for example), minerals (eg. potassium and selenium), fibre, chlorophyll and antioxidents. In addition to their numerous healthy effects, some of these nutrients are thought by doctors to significantly lower the risk of getting cancer. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index diet system is reliant on the glycaemic index, a list of foods and a score representing the speed with which the carbohydrates in the food type gets transformed to glucose in the dieters blood stream. The believe is that slow release foods (ie those food types with a low Gi number), will keep you feeling full for longer and help to eat less food without being miserabl;e. It is also extremely good for diabetics, as the low GI food types are useful in managing rises in glucose levels. |
