Diet informationThe Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition and weightloss system is based around the glycaemic index, a list of foods and a score illustrating the speed with which the glucose and energy in the food gets changed to glucose in your system. The believe is that slow acting food types (ie those with a low Gi number), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and mean that you can reduce your consumption of food without feeling you are missing out. It is also very good for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in reducing increases in glucose amount. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system first invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not exactly a weight loss diet, but many zone diet followers believe that they actually seem to lose a few pounds by following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts one's body in a balanced state that is far more healthful than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't build up fat. The key method of the zone system is to maintain the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
