Diet types

The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it enables weight loss whilst allowing many of the foods you love, such as lamb and hard cheeses.
With this diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition system is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of food types and a score illustrating the ease that the carbs of the food type gets transformed to sugar in your bloodstream. The theory is that slow acting types of food (ie those with a low Gi number), suppress your appetite and mean that you can cut down on food without starving yourself.
It is also extremeley useful for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in managing surges in blood sugar amount.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not expressly a fat reduction diet, but some people claim that they reduce weight by following the zone diet.
The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is far more healthful than other diets, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone".
Sears believes that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, because of this, doesn't need to build up stores of fat.
The main technique of the zone system is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has plenty of Omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
