The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss regime initially detailed by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a fat reduction diet, however many zone diet fans believe that they seem to lose a few pounds when following it. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to gain control of the levels of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is far more healthy than usual, known as the 'zone'. Sears holds the theory that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, because of this, doesn't build up fat. The main procedure of the system is to monitor and control the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. Flavonoid rich foods (inlcudes dark chocolate, red apples, soya beans and cayenne) The flavonoids found in these foods are thought by experts to have properties in helping to prevent cancer. Specialists looking into the medical effects of flavonoids think that they may well have many other health giving properties, including, but not limited to, anti-dermatitis and antiplatelet properties. A good number are also good for weight loss, so should be a part of every diet system. |
