The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index diet system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of types of food and a score illustrating the rapidity that the carbs of the food type gets changed to sugar in your bloodstream. The believe is that long-acting types of food (ie those foods with a low Gi number), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to eat less food without feeling hungry. It is also very efficient for folk with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are helpful in preventing surges in blood glucose secretion. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially invented by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a fat reduction diet, however many 'zone dieters' discover that they seem to lose weight by following this system. The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the amount of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts your body in a state of balance which is much, much more healthful than usual, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears alleges that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, as a consequence, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat. The main process of the zone diet is to maintain the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. Superfoods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes onion, fennel, kidney bean and peppermint) The flavonoids found in these fruit and vegetables are thought by nutritionalists to have properties in preventing cancer. Medical experts investigating the nutritional effects of flavonoids think they may also have most other health benefits, including anti-candida and anti-platelet capabilities. A good number are low in calories, so should be a part of every diet. |
